The shadows from the eve cast down upon the lawn Hiding, the dew covered clover I kneel down to sift through them one by one Excitement runs through me Picking one of them I look closer... Only three leaves. (Toss it over my shoulder) I nudge aside the ungrateful weeds hoping I can find that flicker of green. As dusk brushed my shoulder, my fingers feel the soft, half-closed leaf; it is ready for bed Gently, I pick it up from its feet. I'm in awe of my treasure In a dulcet tone, I count out loud to mysef, "One. Two. Three. Four!" A bright smile lightens my face All I can think of is, "What did I do to deserve such a treat?" I jump up and run inside the house Quickly, I find a thick novel It's sleeping peacefully. I awaken it, gently opening each leaf. I lay it down to rest, and pull the sheets over it There is a peace in the air. It is mine for all eternity
